Help make Soweto Teachers’ Day possible

Truth be told, teachers are working extremely hard to educate our brothers and sisters, and a bit of recognition would certainly mean a lot to them.

On October 24, there will be a Soweto Teachers’ Day Celebration debut at Pimville Community Centre.

The purpose of the celebration is to recognise the contribution made by teachers in the education environment.

Various organisations have come together to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and to promote quality education.

According to Johannes Cele, who is a teacher by profession, musician and filmmaker – the aim is to profile good practice and motivate both teachers including pupils in prioritising education and make schools centres of excellence.

Cele said: “We urge government, business sectors, communities, churches, youth formations, School Governing Bodies, teachers unions, pupils and unnamed formations to participate in this spectacle,” he said.

He said they’re looking for partners to help with the following:

  • Catering for at least 2 500 attendees
  • Hire a good sound system
  • Media coverage (interviews, news articles)
  • Printing of posters, pamphlets and banners
  • Pay for musicians who will be entertaining the crowd

He said they plan to host these gatherings annually.

According to Cele, Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has been invited as the guest speaker.
