New wheels for Pimville man

SA’s biggest car giveaway ever.

An ordinary outing to his local Shoprite during the December period would prove fortuitous for Aubrey Mamoepa (30), a Pimville resident. Mamoepa is a winner in the Shoprite & Checkers car giveaway which took place between November 28 and December 24 last year.

He says, “I didn’t anticipate anything special to happen on the day and the strange thing is that I asked myself what I was doing in the queue at the time.”

Mamoepa was one of a few lucky winners who would win a brand new VW up! vehicle in what has been termed the biggest ‘win a car’ competition in South Africa. A minimum of five customers a day won a car each day over this period and entered by spending R100 or more at their closest Shoprite or Checkers supermarkets.

Customers were required to spend a stipulated amount on any of 29 participating brands which were found at the prominent “Win a Car” displays at the end of the shopping aisles in store. Eligible customers received a printed till slip entry at the check-out counter, submit their details on the slip and drop it into the competition box at the entrance to the store.

Those who wished to retain their slips could also enter via the USSD code printed on the till slip. Neil Schreuder, Marketing Director for Shoprite and Checkers said, “Preparations for the festive season always start months in advance, to ensure that Shoprite and Checkers customers get the very best products at the most affordable prices.”

“This year we wanted to do even more, to thank our 29 million loyal customers for their support, so we’ve pulled out all the stops in order to host South Africa’s biggest car giveaway ever – it is the season of giving after all!

Over the next few weeks, 150 customers will each drive away in a brand new car, simply because they shopped at one of the almost 700 Checkers and Shoprite stores across South Africa,” explained Neil Schreuder, Marketing Director for Shoprite Checkers.”
