A security guard escorting a cigarette delivery van was been shot dead in Orlando East.

The murder happened during a suspected armed robbery which took place on Tuesday morning.

According to police reports, two men entered Ezibeleni General Dealer on Masupa Street and demanded money while the other two stood outside. While that drama was playing itself out, a cigarette delivery van came to deliver.

“The delivery crew was told by suspects to get in on the ground but they refused.

“One of them was shot and died on the scene,” said police spokeswoman Constable Monica Hangwani.

Suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.

They also hijacked a woman and used her car as a gateway vehicle.

No arrests have been made thus far and police are still investigating.

Hangwani said, “We urge anyone with information that can help us find the suspects to come forward. We also appeal to residents not to try to apprehend them as they are deemed dangerous.”
