#SafeTaxisNow: Commuters demand safe taxis

i-LEAD provides self-defense classes and safety awareness tips to women.

Commuters have spoken out about the taxi violence incidents that made headlines in the media recently.

Through the #SafeTaxisNow, a lot of people expressed themselves giving opinions about how ‘unsafe and scary’ it has been of late to use a taxi.

Soul City Institute also jumped in on the conversation tweeting: “We the public demand safe taxis now. Marching next to a taxi route in Orlando West.”

Their march was in support of people who oppose women abuse and those who adamantly stand against any form of abuse whatsoever.

A Soweto Women’s Forum was held at the Uncle Tom’s Community Centre in Orlando West. The discussed topics were; Safe Taxis and Safe Communities.

What happened to the following souls was uncalled for and we at Soweto Urban would like to extend our condolences to the families affected:

Karabo Mokoena, Lerato Moloi, Popi Qwabe and Bongeka Phungula.
