‘There is a purpose to your life’

Make the right career choices

Koketso Rathumbu hosted a group of LGBTI individuals from townships in Gauteng and Soweto to career opportunities by inviting individuals who motivated and inspired them to make the right career choices.

The event, held at Constitution Hill featured speakers from different organisations, young professionals, and entrepreneurs.

They included young entrepreneur Motlatsi Motseoile, founder of gr8ter than now Kabelo Sedumedi, Teboho Kwenda from the South African Association of Youth Clubs, Nkosana Mabuya from ANOVA, journalists Doreen Molefe and Lerato Matsoso and Nthabiseng Motshegwa from the Department of Health.

Motseoile defined himself as a communication strategist, writer, and thinker, LGBTI activist, and entrepreneur and told the story of how he left his law career to start his own business.

He advised those interested in entrepreneurship to find a social element to their business which impacts people in the society because it is pointless if there is no impact.

“We are born on earth for a limited experience, to manage and multiply. If you do not do that, your life becomes pointless,” he said.

Sedumedi on the other hand, advocated the importance of mathematics since his organisation uses maths to help develop young people.

He said, “Learners come into the programme hating maths. Maths is fun when you know the reason why. If you want to do well in school, work hard and be good at solving problems.”

Sedumedi said that they taught young people soft skills which will help them succeed in the workplace.

Nozipho Makhado from the Department of Economic Development invited 50 LGBTI individuals to participate in a script writing workshop to take place in Hammanskraal.
