When registering participants can also buy a Woman & Home magazine ribbon for only R20 which they can wear while walking and dedicate on the Trees of Hope.

This will be the fourth time participants can dedicate their messages on the Tree of Hope, an immensely emotional part of the iThemba Walkathon.

The family orientated event will begin with a 7.9 km and a 5 km walk at 8 am and 8.30 am respectively followed by live entertainment from local artists and well-known broadcast television and radio personalities.

The atmosphere will be enhanced by numerous enterprising food stalls and other activities available for participants to enjoy such as the #PoutForAPurpose initiative.

In line with the company’s ‘Beauty for A Purpose’ mission statement, this is an exciting challenge for participants and all South Africans to post pictures of themselves as well as their friends and family while posing their best pout on social media with the hashtag #PoutForAPurpose as an additional fun way of raising awareness.

Through the various strategic partnerships with NGOs as well as the iThemba Walkathon Avon Justine has been able to reach over fifteen million South Africans already and is working towards reaching twenty million this year.

“Participants have the opportunity to #WalkForAPurpose and make their steps count by participating in the Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon.

“It is estimated that with early detection, over 30 percent of deaths due to breast cancer can be prevented, and an event such as the iThemba Walkathon is a great way to spread the message that early detection really does save lives,” said Vicky Saunders-Flaherty.

The objective of the Avon Justine iThemba Crusade of Hope programme is to ensure that the message that early detection saves lives is spread across the country so that women know the importance of breast health and having their annual mammograms as well as undertaking their monthly Breast Self-Examinations (BSE).
