Teachers are changing the world one child at a time
Riverlea Primary School has built a feeding scheme facility.
Riverlea Primary School has built a feeding scheme facility where the staff could cook for the children and where the children could sit down and eat their meals in.
The building has been completed but for many months, the children and staff had to endure the blazing heat because there were no ceilings.
Nando’s partnered with Expo Centre and managed to solve this problem for the school. The team installed a ceiling and they did not just leave it there.

“We did the ceilings in the feeding scheme because the children used the facility to eat in, but they used to overheat with just the zinc roof.
“We basically refurbished the entire kitchen, pots, cutlery, tables, and gas burners. I’m not sure what the value of everything is,” said Nando’s area manager, Heindrich du Toit.
“On behalf of the School Governing Body and the learners of Riverlea Primary, I’d just like to just say thank you to Nando’s for everything.
“It’s highly appreciated. The upgrade will assist us to feed more children and in so doing, we are making a difference in the world.”
The school has 979 children and the average number of children who are benefiting from the feeding scheme is about 680 to 700 children.
Eight new tables which seats 10 learners have been provided which will enable 80 children to have a sit-down meal.
Instead of bringing the children per class, they can now serve an entire grade at a time.

“This makes us more efficient and less time is spent outside of the classrooms,” said Marcelle Elephant, the school principal.
Du Toit said, “We thank you for giving us this opportunity. We hope that you enjoy your new facility and we wish you the best with the exams and the rest of your schooling life.
“We say that we change the world one chicken at a time, but these teachers are changing one child at a time.”
