WATCH: EFF fights for better public healthcare services

“Whatever happens in this hospital affects all of us"

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), held mass demonstrations on public health across the country. Led by the EFF leader Julius Malema, on February 28, EFF held a demonstration outside the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital demanding quality public healthcare services.

Traffic stopped on busy Chris Hani road when Marchers were singing and chanting, holding posters against poor public healthcare.

The march started at the KFC outlet next to Elias Motswaledi and proceeded to Bara where they handed in their memorandum and where Malema addressed the crowd. The march was so intense that motorists and passersby stopped to listen.

“We are a community, and whatever happens in this hospital affects all of us, once you enter the gate you leave your problems at home and bring a healing attitude, not an attitude that will make a patient want to die now,” Malema said.

“Next year the government of the EFF is coming, if you think that you are untouchable in this hospital, you must know that we are coming for you next year, we are going to turn tables in this hospital,” he added.

Malema addressed quite a number of issues that affect our nurses, these included the issue of nurses working overtime and being underpaid and working under poor conditions.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) held a mass demonstration on public health across the country.

“We know that our nurses work under very difficult conditions, they work for long hours because there are very few nurses in our hospitals and even when they work for long hours, they don’t get more money for working overtime.

“Many of them are working under threats and many are tired, hence the inability to perform to the best of their ability.

“When we find them grumpy, we tend to think they do not love their people, but that is not the reason, it is because they are being overworked and they are not paid,” Malema said.

Addressing the crowd at the march, EFF Spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi called for adequate staffing at state hospitals.
