A memorable 11th birthday for Palesa Mokome
“These are priceless moments. This is the best birthday celebration I have ever had because it brought back all the beautiful memories mom had about the little me."

In 2007, Maponya Mall, Nido and Caxton Urban Newspapers ran a baby competition which saw over 1000 babies registered. With the help of a number of shops at the mall who sponsored the competition, it turned out to be a huge success. The competition was divided into three categories, zero to six months, seven to twelve months and one to three years.
Palesa Mokome from Moletsane, who was six months old at the time, was crowned the winner in the zero to six months category, winning R 10 000 in vouchers. Maponya Mall was opened during that year and the mall and Palesa are celebrating their 11th birthday this year.

You probably remember the baby show that was held at Maponya Mall, but you wouldn’t recognise Palesa if you were to see her. She’s all grown up now and on June 9, she celebrated her birthday with her family and friends at Spur, Maponya Mall. According to her mother, Brenda Mokome, the competition is one of the best memories she has of her lovely daughter as a baby, and celebrating her birthday at this mall brought back the joy she felt after winning the competition.

Palesa said that she appreciates what her mom has done for her.
She said, “These are priceless moments. This is the best birthday celebration I have ever had because it brought back all the beautiful memories mom had about the little me. I really appreciate her efforts in making me this happy. She is the best mother a child could ever ask for. I am also grateful for all my friends and family who made this day memorable and fun for me.”
She added that she would make her mother proud by working hard at school because what makes every mother happy, is seeing her child succeed.
