Youth Day commemorations have kicked off with a host of activities across Soweto. President Cyril Ramaphosa joined Sowetans in a walk before laying a wreath at the Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum.

The president was joined by the the mayor of Johannesburg and cabinet ministers. The wreath laying ceremony was a prelude to the festivities which will be taking place at Orlando Stadium throughout the day. Local artists will grace the stage and the president will deliver the keynote address.
