Protea Glen Clinic in conjunction with various stakeholders held a health awareness day at Joe Gqabi Integrated Centre in Protea Glen last Tuesday.
The health awareness day saw community members, specifically the elderly, receive free eye tests, diabetes and prostate cancer screening and an opportunity to get their blood pressure checked. The day started off with some light aerobic exercise for the elderly led by Protea Glen Fitness Club.
“We wanted to promote health and being healthy in our community while also showcasing the opportunities available in our community to stay healthy like with Protea Glen Fitness Club,” said Lebogang Nemutudi, a health promoter and chief stakeholder.

The event furthermore aimed to encourage community members to leave their homes, go outside and exercise more.
“We need to get out and exercise but it’s also about having fun. When you’re happy your health also reflects that but if you are not happy, nothing will be right in your body,” Nemutudi further alluded.
Thulani Ndlovu, a chairperson of Protea Glen Clinic, noted that men’s health was more often than not less spoken of and thus took it upon himself to be the first one to be screened for prostate cancer.
