Trace Me SA launched

This organisation collects information that can help both the police and parents identify missing persons in the case that the person was found deceased.

In light of the increasing rate of reported missing children’s cases, an organisation that has its roots in Soweto has its sole purpose dedicated to putting measures in place to assist parents if they find themselves in that situation.

Titled Trace Me SA, the organisation functions to collect information that can help both the police and parents identify missing persons in the case that the person was found deceased.

Their information also helps the police confirm certain details about an individual if the person has been found, in that way, the police would be able to like the missing person in their family.

Last Thursday, Trace Me was conducting their data collection in Emndeni at Masisizaneni Day Care Centre where they got to interact and collect vital data from about 30 toddlers.

“At times you would find that an elderly person is taking care of a child and sometimes it would be hard for a person to give details of the missing person because they may have forgotten certain things.

“In other situations, you would find that only certain parts of a person’s body are found, such as their limbs or a face is unidentifiable.

“So we came up with a way of identifying important things about a person that can trace back to that individual’s DNA.”

As part of their data collection, they target day care centres that are willing to work with them and they go around collecting samples of children’s nails, teeth samples and hair samples.

Once the information has been collected, a data file is compiled that contains all this information along with other unique features about that individual will be sent back to the child’s parents.
