Izinyokas’ shocking death toll

“They aren’t afraid, they do it in broad daylight.”

Community activist Bishop Robertson is a man on a mission. Robertson is speaking up about the illegal connections in Eldorado Park and how it has been claiming the lives of residents in the area.

According to Robertson, it seems the illegal connections in Eldorado Park are not being taken seriously enough.

“On August 7 another life was lost because of connections that are not supposed to be there. A man was electrocuted close to the Jamila Shopping Centre and died immediately because of how strong the electrical current was.

An open drain in Dartmoor Avenue.

“A year before last, two people lost their lives because of the visible live wires in the Nancefield area,” he said.

According to Robertson, the man who was electrocuted was in the process of connecting electricity. He said that the situation in Eldorado Park has gotten out of hand because people now openly connect their wires for everyone to see.

“They aren’t afraid, they do it in broad daylight,” he added.

An area of serious concern is Dartmoor Avenue in Extension Eight because not only are there visible illegal connections, but there are two drain covers which have been removed so people can continue connecting their wires underground.

This makes it extremely dangerous for the children who walk to and from school every day.

“The drain covers are gone and the holes are so big, our children can easily fall in, it is not safe. I am appealing to our councillors to please, at the very least close these open drains, for the sake of our children,” he said.

Councillor Peter Rafferty said that he wasn’t aware of the open drains in Dartmoor Avenue.

“The other open drains that were brought to my attention have been closed. I will, however, investigate and get the relevant people to attend to it,” he said.
