Environmentorz giving away free seeds for food gardens

Create your own garden to ease food scarcity woes.

October is World Food Month which is officially celebrated on October 16.

“With the high poverty rate in our community, we urge residents to start their own food gardens, the benefits are endless,” said Kaylene Jegels from local environmental organisation – the Environmentorz.

According to the Environmentorz, World Food Month gives people the opportunity to grow food to feed themselves or to feed communities.

Jegels said, “This means that in order to eradicate poverty, we need to plant our own food to survive. There are many benefits of growing your own food besides adding a splash colour to your yard. Growing your own food has many health benefits, it helps you eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and lets you control when you harvest your food,” she added.

The Environmentorz team would like to encourage all community members who are interested in starting their own food gardens to collect vegetable seeds at their office at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Ext 9.

“The seeds are free of charge and creating a food garden at your own home is very convenient and cost-efficient for your family. Let us all work together as a community and eradicate poverty,” said Jegels.
