All eight stations under the Soweto West Cluster gathered together to be awarded in various categories.

The categories varied from members who are performing office work and members who are doing crime prevention and sector duties. Moroka managed to scoop the best administration group and best crime prevention group.

Best Vispol member for 2018 went Lieutenant Colonel Masinge who managed to beat the all other vispol commanders of the cluster.

The station finance office was awarded the best administration group. Sergeant Langa came second in the best reservists’ category.

Captain Chili’s group won the best crime prevention group.

Captain Mpande Khoza of Moroka SAPS said they want the community to understand that the police station is striving to be the best in Gauteng in terms of service delivery.

“We understand that we have some challenges with regard to reducing serious and violent crimes like murder.

“We still have a challenge with two hostels which is Merafe and Nancefield where stolen motor vehicles are being taken there,” said Khoza.

He said murders of innocent people and security guards are also common in Nancefield but they are working with the community to reduce crime in this most affected area.

Station commander, Brigadier Govindasamy congratulated all the winners and also challenges those who didn’t win this year to put more effort and to become winners next year.
