Common robbery still a concern in Eldos

Residents are urged to report all crimes to their nearest police station.

The Eldorado Park police warns residents to be vigilant as common robbery is still a concern within the community. According to communications officer, Constable Fezeka Khobo, reports pertaining to this kind of crime are made very often.

“Just last week we arrested a 27-year-old suspect for common robbery,” said Khobo.

“The incident occurred in Silika Street, old Eldorado Park. It is alleged that the victim was walking when he was approached by a person he knows very well.

“The victim was asked for money, he then told the suspect that he did not have money and that the note he had required change. That is when the suspect grabbed the money and ran off,” she added.

Residents, who wish to remain anonymous, have since come forward as similar incidents have happened to them. According to residents streets where common robbery occur include Silver Street, Num Num Street, Sand Street, Koerant Street, Milnerton Street and Park street.

“Streets that are targeted are usually streets that are relatively quiet either in the morning or early evening,” said a resident.

“It also seems that stealing paving is the new trend,” said a resident from Extension Two. “We have noticed that our paving in Union Road is getting less and less. As residents how can we prevent this from happening? We are targets and it is a concern,” she said.
