One shot and killed in Westbury

Any person who can help the police in their investigations must please call the Sophiatown police station.

Last year this time, the community of Westbury had just fought against violence, drugs and gangsterism. The Minister of Police, Bheki Cele had addressed the residents and the Tactical Response Teams (TRT) were tasked with the responsibility of keeping the streets safe and removing gangsterism and drugs off of the streets of Westbury.

Arrests have been made and many were charged however there has still been shooting in the area. It is not confirmed if all these shootings are gang-related but the shootings are still happening.

In a more recent shooting, Captain Jerbes de Bruyn reported that the incident took place on Saturday, October 26 at 3.45 pm when the Sophiatown police received a complaint of a shooting at the corner of Hay Avenue and Percy Peffer Street in Westbury.

“Upon the police’s arrival, they found one man laying on the ground with an alleged gunshot wound in the back of his head.

“Paramedics were called to the scene and the man was declared dead on the scene. A case of murder has been opened. No one has been arrested in connection with the case,” said the Captain.
