The spokesperson for Diepkloof SAPS Captain Phephi Matlou-Mteto confirmed that a rape case has been opened against the 70-year-old man.

Concerns have arisen in the hearts of the police from Diepkloof SAPS after it came to light to them how a 70-year-old man was beaten by the community of Motsoaledi for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl who happens to have mental challenges.

After the community discovered the old man’s disgraceful actions towards the vulnerable under-age girl, they were immediately enraged and took justice into their own hands. The man was captured and beaten to a pulp. However, a rape case was opened and by the time the police made their way to arrest the 70-year-old man accused of rape, the people had dealt with him violently.

The spokesperson for Diepkloof SAPS Captain Phephi Matlou-Mteto confirmed that a rape case has been opened against the 70-year-old man who is currently recovering in hospital after receiving a beating from the community of Motsoaledi.

Matlou-Mteto said, “The man is still due to appear in court for the case of rape, right now, he is recovering in hospital under the police guard after being assaulted by the angry community.”

Concerning the 12-year-old girl, Captain Phephi Matlou-Mteto explained that her mental challenges could have made her a target of sexual exploitation and that the onus is on the parents and guardians of the little girls who have mental challenges to always look after them, because, as it is evident, some people prey on them.

Matlou-Mteto said, “It is the parent’s or guardian’s responsibility to watch over their physically and mentally challenged children because, like the 70-year-old man, people often show themselves as wolves disguised in sheepskin, ready to prey on any unsuspecting person. We would like the community to know and be aware of such incidents so that vulnerable kids can be kept safe, after all, it is their right.”
