Soweto Born and bred Commercial Pilot, Boitumelo Katisi is steadily to take Aviation to never seen before heights. The 27-year-old is on a campaign to help young learners realize the beauty of aviation and learn more about the industry.

Katisi recently made headlines when she became one of the youngest licensed commercial Pilots in the world. While South Africa was still holding its breath, she got on to planning the biggest Aviation Expo South Africa has ever had. In May, Katisi and her team, Aviation Development Africa, hosted the first-ever Aviation Expo in Soweto.

The event saw more than 1000 learners from Schools across the Gauteng province pack the Tabernacle Freeway Church in Midway, Soweto for arguably the country’s biggest Aviation Expo career day.

“Our primary goal was to spread information about the Aviation sector, but we realized it had to go further than that. So now we also identify students within the sector, mentor them and try to get financial support for their studies,” she told Soweto Urban at the event.

Approximately 1500 learners from 18 schools across Gauteng showed up for the expo. They received a rare chance to engage in one on one session with Pilots, Air Traffic Controllers and other professionals in the aviation field. Guest speakers told motivational stories from their struggles and how they overcame them.

Now, only months later, Katisi is aiming for another milestone. She plans to take the Aviation Expo to the Province of Limpopo. She has reached out to several organizations for support as brings this once in a lifetime experience to the children of Limpopo.
