Jabulani CPF suspend broader meetings in all their Sectors in response to COVID- 19

The decision to postpone follows after the president of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa declared the National State of Disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

Jabulani Crime Policing Forum (CPF) and SAPS postponed the broader meeting in Sector 1 that had been planned at Dr. BW Vilakazi Street in Zondi, in response to the Corona Virus outbreak.

The meeting was meant to engage with the community for purposes of public education, to give feedback and for officials to account for the community.

This decision to postpone follows after the president of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa declared a National State of Disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act, in his address on Sunday evening and the ban of gatherings of more than 100 people.

Jabulani CPF spokesperson Buthi Makhoba said the outbreak is already affecting CPF because the community usually hosts meetings every week to address issues that affect them.

“We have to sit down as executives and look for the best way to continue serving the people especially now that under the National State of disaster the gathering of more than 100 people is prohibited, it is difficult,” he said.

“But in our policing areas we have sub-structure executives and the sector crime forum so if the community wants me to come to address them on issues pertaining crime I will go, we won’t be stopped by this virus,” he added.

Makhoba emphasised all major gatherings will be cancelled until further notice but if the situation is bad they will be attended to the communities along with the police.

The projects and meetings that were postponed by the CPF include a cleaning campaign, a mass meeting, an executive meeting and a meeting to elect a junior station commissioner from 8 schools.

The CPF will communicate further information regarding public participation.
