Protea Glen to get fibre cable to innovate

Internet is a need, especially now during COVID-19.

While the people from the community of Soweto are either stuck, stressed or trying to cope during the COVID-19 Lockdown, the people from Protea can look forward to having a quicker and faster internet connection in their homes to always make sure that their lives always continue, no matter the state of the nation.

The construction company designated to do the Fibre Cable Installation, Ralwela Construction Company made a pass via Protea North where people walking and driving could see construction workers on the side of the road, explained Sibusiso Hlongwane of Ralwela Construction Company. The Fibre Cable to be fully installed in Protea Glen will take them about three months.

Simphiwe Gumbi of the construction company explained that according to her, the installation of the Fibre Cable means that the people from the area can afford better and faster internet, she said, “Especially during these COVID-19 times, quality internet means that people can still do their work from home, even get better jobs from home.”

Gumbi said that since the Fibre connection will bring a lot of improvements in people’s lives, she wishes that everyone in Soweto would get it.

Hlongwane explained that they were doing something new called fiber to the home from the old fiber only made for businesses, he said, “This will make life easier for everyone who needs to use the internet.”

Lesego More from Protea elaborated more from the perspective of a student, he said, “Data rates in SA are very expensive and that makes life difficult for students and having the internet close is like having the world close.”
