The Gail Britoe Foundation celebrated 8 years

The foundation started with 67 children and now has 97 children.

The Gail Britoe Foundation celebrated its eighth year of serving in the community on July 18 in Eldorado Park. “We started in 2012 on Mandela Day, back then I just wanted to do something for the 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

“That is the day I realised the big need our community has with regards to not having food.

“We have now been operating for eight years, and thank God that we have never missed one of our feeding days.

“We have a very big programme for today, usually, we hire jumping castles but due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have to make sure that there is social distancing, sanitising and all the children have to wear masks,” explained Ensley Britoe the founder of the organisation.

According to Britoe, Nikita Klaaste who has been a partner of the organisation for the last three years had a ‘Vitamin C and Sock Drive’ with the children.

The foundation started with 67 children and now has 97 children which the NPO is feeding and developing on a permanent basis.

“Every child will receive socks, a party pack, fruits, and a hot dog today

“Advanced Academy came yesterday to have a meet and greet with our kids.

“They gave the kids sweets and learned more about us and interacted with the kids.

“They also donated clothing which we distribute to residents who are in need.

This will never be an Ensley Britoe project, it is a community project because it is all teamwork,” said Britoe.

A birthday celebration is nothing without cake, so the organisation and had a big cake to cut and enjoy with the children.

Britoe would like to thank Clement Nwokoro, Mr. Kladine, Atvance Academy, Nikita Klaaste, Mohammed Family, and the Britoe family for sponsoring the organisation on a special day.

The founder concluded the interview by sharing that when he was a child, he never had anything like this NPO that he is running and that he learnt about generosity from his late mother (Gail Britoe). He said: “I’ve learned that you do not have to be rich to make a difference.”
