Two men die in separate Soweto shack fires

EMS responded to two separate shack fire incidents in Pimville Zone 9 and Braamfischer Phase 3.

Two men died in separate shack fires in Pimville and Braamfischer in Soweto on August 30.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services firefighters responded to the two incidents.

A 34-year-old man and a man in his late 30s died in the blazes. No other injuries were reported, and the causes of both fires remain under investigation.

“The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services public education unit will continue to intensify community outreach programmes to empower residents with the necessary skills and information to deal with emergencies in their respective communities,” said Robert Mulaudzi, the EMS spokesperson.

He urged residents to look after all heating and cooking appliances and to ensure they are not left unattended while in use to prevent devastating fires.
