Transport month took off and advocates for people to think about kids

Zero Tolerance towards irresponsible Learner Transport Drivers.

The JMPD Community Outreach Unit joined hands together with the JMPD Community Outreach Unitto commemorate October as Transport Month and to ensure that there is compliance to Road Safety and that people “Think Kids.”

“Think kids,” the slogan that brought together the two above-mentioned partnerships will see safety awareness campaigns take place throughout the tenth month in all of the eight regions of the CoJ including in Soweto Protea Glen, which is situated in Region D.

The Spokesperson for the JMPD, Wayne Minnaar explained the reason for the meeting between their community outreach unit and the greater Johannesburg Learner Transport Organization, she said, “The purpose of the meeting was to form a partnership to work together as the law enforcement and Learner Transport operators from this month going forth into the future.”

The upcoming campaigns will consist of awareness presentations in schools and from school transport parking areas to inform and educate both the learners and their school transport drivers about all the COVID-19 safety regulations and requirements, road safety plus Learner and driver behavior.

Minnaar said, “Scholar transport drivers must be mindful of the following tips:

1 ) Scholar Transport drivers must drive carefully at all times.

2 ) Scholar Transport drivers must realise that the safety of learners is in their hands.

3) Scholar Transport drivers must never speed when they have to transport learners.

4) Scholar Transport drivers must never try to consume even one drop of alcohol, while they have a very important task to transport learners to and from schools.

Minnaar further added that the Parents of the learners, the JMPD, the SAPS, and the Department of Education depend on the Scholar Transport drivers and expect drivers to be responsible at all times.

Minnaar said, “The JMPD will not show any mercy toward Scholar Transport drivers who are reckless or who drink and drive, and who endanger the lives of learners when the drivers have a very important task to protect the learners which they have been entrusted to transport.”
