JMPD to closely monitor social gatherings

This comes after the President, Cyril Ramaphosa announced that all festivals, live music shows and performances at beaches would be prohibited.

The increase in COVID-19 cases means that the country would have to live under strict restrictions once again, and JMPD will closely monitor all gatherings in Soweto.

Religious groups will also be monitored, and indoor gatherings should not exceed a 100 people, while outdoor events may not exceed a capacity of 250 people.

The people would have to adhere to a curfew period between 11pm to 4am with bars and restuarants closing by 10pm, Wayne Minnaar, the Spokesperson for the JMPD, said, “This is to give the employees a one hour leverage to reach home.”

Wine bibbers and alcohol lovers would either have to stock up their bottles or wait until 10am between Monday to Thursday, before 6pm.

There will be no sales of alcohol on Weekends and Friday, and no on-site consumption of alcohol will be permitted at licensed establishments after 10pm. On the bright side, however, registered wineries and wine farms may continue to offer tastings and wine sales to the public for off-site consumption over weekends.

This comes after the President, Cyril Ramaphosa announced that all festivals, live music shows and performances at beaches would be prohibited.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “The third area of focus over this period is to prevent Super spreader events and reduce the burden on health care services due to irresponsible alcohol consumption.”
