Man nabbed for pretending to be an official and using an unlicensed firearm

The fight against illegal firearms continues.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has nabbed a male who had been pretending to be a official and using an unlicensed firearm.

JMPD officers received a complaint on Wednesday regarding a man who had been using an unlicensed firearm in Lenasia South. The officers collaborated with SAPS and Crime Intelligence to track down the suspect.

Upon arrival at the address, officers searched the premises. Inside the man’s room, police found and recovered a police uniform, two JMPD bulletproof vests, a SAPS cap, name tag, face mask, and an unlicensed firearm with 12 live ammunition.

The suspect was immediately arrested and detained at the Lenasia South SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and possession of a police uniform.
