Over the last five years, a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) called Thusa Bantwana founded by Florence Steemkamp has been trying to feed residents who are in need in the community.
“We thank God for that we can feed about 375 people in our community every week,” said Steemkamp.
The NPO provides lunch three times a week to children and adults and believes in taking care of residents who cannot afford to put a plate of food on the table every day. The team cooks on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Steemkamp shared that since last year, their numbers have increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic and many losing their jobs.
Often the foundation runs short on ingredients to cook because of the increased number of residents who are dependent on the feeding scheme. The organisation is based in extension 8 in Eldorado Park is asking residents who can, donate food items that they can use to feed those who are in need.
“We would like to thank one of our weekly donor who is a pastor living in Krugersdorp, his contribution caters for the one day in the week and it helps us. We are asking locals for vegetables, rice, oil, whatever food items we can use to cook. We do not want the money, residents can even buy the items and drop them off by us,” said Steemkamp.
