Moosa up for national team duty

She got her first taste of international football in a FIFA 22 World Cup qualifier first-leg victory against Mozambique, and got her second call up in the return leg played at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Soweto Fabulous midfielder Ayesha Moosa has received her first international call-up to the South African Under 20 national team (Basetsana).

A Lenasia street footballer at heart, Moosa comes from a family of footballers and honed most of her skills through playing with her older brothers. The 17-year-old only started playing league football in 2018 and has since rapidly grown into one of the country’s most promising young players.

Basetsana won the game by 3-2 and proceed to the 3rd round of qualifiers. In the meantime, Moosa will turn her attention to club ambitions.

The attacking midfielder is an integral part of Soweto Fabulous’s title hopes. Fabulous, by their high standards, have had a disappointing season so far. A bright start on match-day one was followed by a humbling defeat the following week. This has been the theme throughout their season.

The side has only managed to win just one of their seven away games this season. Fabulous find themselves in 5th place behind Diepkloof Ladies despite beating their rivals by 3-1 last weekend.

Their next test will come against Blue Birds Ladies Football Academy who slumps in 13th place with only four wins in 18 matches this season.
