The trio is charged with a schedule six offense for murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to create bodily harm. This comes after they allegedly beat up three “nyaope boys” who were accused of attempting to break-in at one of the houses in Snake Park.

According to one resident, the tree boys were caught right in the act and severely beaten. After beating them up, they allegedly took them to their homes where one of them reportedly died. His family went to Snake Park police Station to open a case following the incident.

The accused then handed themselves over to the police on Sunday this past weekend after hearing that one of their victims had died. They appeared in court on Monday for bail hearing which was denied.

The magistrate said they should remain in custody pending their trial because they are a danger to the community. The trio is expected back in court again on May 3 for indictment.

“The justice system has failed us because when these “nyaope boys” break into our homes nothing is done. The police release them and they never stay in jail,” said Jabulile Motloung, one of the residents picketing outside the court.

She continued to say that the community is struggling with nyope addicts and is tired of them.

Residents were not impressed with Monday’s judgment.
