5K challenge for Global Running Day

As a build-up to this year's Absa RUN YOUR CITY, organisers of the series are inviting runners to participate in the Global Running Day 5K challenge.

The challenge is aimed at getting runners excited about this year’s series while taking part in the commemoration of Global Running Day on June 1.

This invite is open to all runners from across the country and will be done through Strava. Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series said they are excited to be part of Global Running Day and to celebrate it with South African runners who are eager to get back on the roads after the pandemic disrupted everything.

Even though the country is open with lockdown restrictions relaxed, this challenge will be held virtually through Strava where runners can choose their routes and times.

Meyer said, “What makes the Strava Challenges fantastic is that runners nationwide can sign up and be part of the action as it’s virtual. Entrants need to complete the 5K run anywhere and anytime between 05:00 and 23:00 on Wednesday June 1. Don’t forget to record your run using a smartphone (Android or iPhone device) or smart watch.”

This celebration of Global Running Day will also give runners a shot at winning awesome prizes for taking part. PUMA NITRO running shoes are up for grabs and to stand a chance of winning, participants need to share their activities, routes and photos to the RUN YOUR CITY Series Running Club on Strava by no later than 23:00 on the day of the run.
