Diepkloof police tighten their grip on crime

The successful multi-disciplinary operation was spearheaded by Diepkloof station Commander, Brigadier Makgomo Maake together with the Johannesburg District Commander General Max Masha.

Diepkloof SAPS conducted Operation O Kae Molao in various parts of Diepkloof on Friday evening, June 10 in a continued bid to clamp down on crime and unlawfulness in the area.

The successful multi-disciplinary operation was spearheaded by Diepkloof station Commander, Brigadier Makgomo Maake together with the Johannesburg District Commander General Max Masha.

It included extended support of law enforcement officials from the SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police, Gauteng Traffic Police, Department of Home Affairs, Patrollers and Community Police Forum.

The operation led to the successful arrest of five undocumented immigrants, three unlicensed taverns were shut down and the owners subsequently arrested for trading without the liquor licenses.

The list of apprehended suspects included the arrests of two males in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions.

The suspects were also found to be in possession of a stolen motor vehicle that was reported in Sandton.

The Diepkloof Communications Officer, Caption Phephi Matlou-Mteto said the collaborative operation was in response to the growing crime and safety concerns in the area.

Matlou-Mteto further explained that the community of Diepkloof will see more operations of this nature moving forward.

“The operation led to a successful night of arrests. Over 150 people were searched, 50 vehicles stopped and searched and 25 traffic fines were issued,” She said.

“We thank the community for working hand-in-hand with the police. The operation is an indication of visible policing to show our community that we are visible and here to protect them.

“We want to ensure that those who don’t comply with the law are dealt with accordingly.”

The arrested individuals are expected to make an appearance before the Orlando Magistrate’s Court from Monday June 13.
