Joining hands for clean environment in Eldorado Park
Eldorado Park’s Environmentorz aims to create awareness on the importance of wetlands as well as restore the biodiversity in the river.
Environmentorz, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) has partnered with environmental scientist, Dr Lee Ann Modley from the University of Johannesburg to clean up the river at ‘the jungle’ in Eldorado Park Extension 9.

According to Kaylene Jegels from the NPO, the project started in 2018 when tests were done on the water and the results showed that there is no longer life inside of the water.

“We would like to take on the project as a community-based ecological restoration project, meaning we want the surrounding community members to take part in this project.
“If we don’t revive the wetland the houses around it will be at risk of floods. Wetlands prevent flooding when there is heavy rainfall,” explained Jegels.
The organisation is calling on all residents as well as stakeholders in and around Eldorado Park to assist with the project being a success. The success of the project would mean that the river will be restored with the biodiversity back into it.
