Rest in peace Khaya

"The last day I saw my son was on Sunday, June 12, I was from work, when Khaya saw me he ran towards me to ask for R1."

A memorial service and wreath laying for Kayalethu Magadla, 7, was held on Friday 8 July in Dlamini Eco Park, with many community members and dignitaries in attendance to pay tribute to the boy.

This after  Kayalethu Magadla’s body was found on Saturday 2 July near Eldorado Park Cemetery at about 12:23 and his family was called in to come and identify his body.

On behalf of the family , Sam Magadla said, “ As Magadla family we would like to thank everyone for availing themselves for this service and for being available during this difficult time and offering prayers.

The family was relieved that Khayalethu’s body was found.

“We thank you that you helped us look for him until his body was discovered.

“Today we are here to celebrate that the person we have been looking for and praying for was found”.

Paying tribute to her son, a voice recording of Smangele Magadla was played during the monorail and on the recording she said: “I’m in pain.

“The pain in my heart is unbearable but I’m trying , Khayalethu is my son , I gave birth to him in 2016.

“When he graduated from crech in 2021 I was so excited.

“2022 he went to school and he was so excited, he was a child full of jokes in the house, he was a very happy child, even if he cried it would only be for 2 minutes, after that it would be like he never cried.

“He loved playing games and he loved his grandfather and cousin so much,”

“We would fight for the TV because he always wanted to watch Spider-Man.

“The house is so quite without him, I’m not okay but I’m trying, he loved good things.

“All I can say is rest in peace my son. his departure has shocked me, he was very young, lala Ngoxolo mfana wami, you have left your father and I with very broken and painful hearts “.

The father of Khayalethu , Kholekile Magadla, also paid tribute to his son and these are his words: “ I just want to thank the community, I am this strong because of your prayers.

“Before this whole situation happened I got so scared and I started asking myself what it is that I have done, I even shared it with my wife.

“The last day I saw my son was on Sunday, June 12, I was from work, when Khaya saw me he ran towards me to ask for R1.

“Around past 4, his mother called to say she can’t find him, she called again at 5 that she can’t find him, that’s when we got worried and started looking for him, with the assistance of the community.

Emotions were running high during the memorial service of Khayalethu.

The family then went to Moroka police station around past 6 to report for a missing person and I was only attended to at 9 PM.

“We got the case number and came back without the van nor the police. But the community still assisted,” said Kholekile.

That’s when they decided to start questioning the other kids what had happened.

They decided to go back to the police station around 12 am and upon arrival, they received attitude. And only on Monday morning they received the news of what really happened to Khayalethu.
