“What happened is very painful and reflects the many failures our country is facing.
“We are hearing a lot of problems and very few solutions. It’s time for practical solutions that work to protect citizens and lower crime rates.
“As long as there is talk and no action, we will continue to be ridden over by crime,” said Dr Ntombi Khumalo, a Member of Parliament and DA’s Constituency Head for Soweto East.
Dr Khumalo is one of the leaders who were on the scene to offer her condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident.

.She emphasized the importance of police visibility and accountability by law enforcement officials.
Another community leader, Keabetsoe Sticks Malebo questioned the role of police in communities where people are killed with high calibre rifles.
“Why are the police not acting against these crimes?” asked Malebo.
“Maseru is not far from here. It is an informal settlement where people are kidnapped, kept and rapped there but the police don’t go inside that place.
“So it is a challenge when we are surrounded by informal settlements where crime is committed but police can’t go in and investigate or arrest suspects.”

“We have already engaged with law enforcement agencies to try and address the matter so that we can have a safer community,” said Molefe.
