Ferguson started her day care centre four years ago and because of her love for children she started accepting even those whose parents cannot afford to pay.
She realised the need for such centres in the community as she’s seen many children roaming the streets unsupervised.
One common issue that Ferguson has identified was the fact that there are many children who have parents who are on drugs and often times the children are the ones who suffer.
The day care centre currently has 30 children under its wing and Ferguson is now in the process of registering as a Community Based Organisation.
“I love children so much and I don’t want them to wonder in the streets, I want them to be safe and cared for. They are young and they need to be protected.
“I feel that if they can come here, we can look after them.
“We can feed and teach them. If they don’t have shoes, we try and get them.
“Even if the parents don’t contribute, I still keep the children here because I love them and I try to take care of them from my own pockets,” she said.
Children as young as 8 months old attend the day care and they receive breakfast and lunch.Since April, Archangels has been adopted by The Sisterhood Foundation SA run by Alicia Solomons.
Solomons has assisted the centre with blankets, meal items, as well as a wendy house. She is also assisting Ferguson with registration.

Furguson is also attending training with SmartStart so that she can have the skills to teach the little ones in her care.
Solomons together with Ferguson has put together a basic needs list which consists of daily meal items, mats for the children to sleep on and furniture.
The two organisations are asking for assistance from the community to contribute towards the day care in any way possible. If you would like the needs list to assist the organisation, you can contact Maqdalene Ferguson on 079 417 6382.
