The evening saw ten finalists of the 2023 Miss Diepkloof Pageant contest for the crown on stage in front of their families and friends who came out to support them at the Diepkloof Community Hall.

According to the Miss Diepkloof Pageant founder and organiser, Hlamalani Mavasa, regardless of all the challenges they have faced in preparation for the event, they still managed to make the night come true for their contestants.
“When I first came up with the idea of the pageant, the vision of showcasing the beauty and talent of young girls in the area and as I proceeded to work with them, I saw that most of them always had passion for modelling but did not have a platform to start their careers.
“One of the main aims of the pageant was to keep them away from the streets and have them engaged in activities that will provide them with experience even for tomorrow,” Mavasa said.
The pageant catered for girls aged 15 to 23 years, who went on stage to showcase their catwalk and public speaking skills responding to the questions asked by guest judges of the evening, Nomfundo Mercy Side and Miss Giyani Teen 2021, Palesa Ramothwala.
“Some of the challenges we have faced through the preparation of the event is the issue of votes. We have parents who think the votes were tampered with and that I had a hand in the selection of the winner.
“This is not true because residents were given a chance to vote for their favourite finalists and the winner that we have today is the result of the votes.”

Mavasa added that since the pageant will now be held annually, parents are urged to work together with the organisers and remember that the competition follows the relevant requirements to ensure that it is fair for the contestants.

This year’s winner for the Miss Diepkloof Pageant is Vanessa Bila (20) followed by first princess, Ntando Mbatha, the second princess, Mosa Mahasa and Miss Social Butterfly, Bonolo Lebudi.
Bila was emotional as she expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the residents who voted for her and ensured that she takes the crown home.
“It has not been an easy journey since all the other contestants are as beautiful and deserving to win the crown.
“This has also taught me that the real beauty of a person is their warm personality and caring heart,” Bila said.
Her parents could not help but beam with smiles as she accepted her crown and later joined her on stage to congratulate and celebrate with her.
