Netball World Cup 2023 trophy visits Pimville

MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Morakane Mosupyoe together with the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg.

The Netball World Cup Trophy Tour of Gauteng entered its second day on Wednesday, May 31 at Maponya Mall as a final stop in Johannesburg.

MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Morakane Mosupyoe together with the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Councilor Kabelo Gwamanda received the trophy as it goes through the City’s streets.

They were joined on tour by the leadership of Johannesburg Netball Federation and various personalities including sports stars on route to Maponya Mall for activation and public viewing of the trophy.

“This makes me remember the year 2010 when the cup was at Dlamini Multipurpose Hall. It is no doubt that sports bring South Africans together and it doesn’t matter which sport is it,” said Simphiwe Mahlinza resident of Pimville.

With less than 50 days before the kick-off of the Netball World Cup 2023 taking place in Cape Town, South Africans are urged to support the SPAR Proteas as they represent women in sports.

Taking Netball in Africa to a whole new level, the tour was aimed at taking the trophy to where it could have never been, and to get Gauteng people behind the tournament and the South African Netball Team.
