Diepkloof shooting leaves taxi boss dead, police investigate

A taxi association chairperson was blocked by two vehicles before being shot multiple times.

The police are on the lookout for gunmen after a 58-year-old man, reported to be a taxi association chairperson, was shot and killed in Diepkloof on the morning of September 18.

It was reported that the victim was driving on the Soweto Highway when the shooters, driving two vehicles, blocked him in.

They fired several shots, and the victim was certified dead at the scene, said provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

The motive for the killing has not been confirmed, but the SAPS suspect it to be related to taxi violence.
