One dead in suspected taxi violence at Maponya Mall
A violent assault on e-hailing vehicles has left one dead, two injured, and both cars destroyed by fire. Police are investigating possible taxi industry links.
One person has been fatally shot and two others injured after a violent attack on e-hailing vehicles at Maponya Mall, Klipspruit, on August 13.
According to preliminary reports, an e-hailing vehicle stopped at the mall’s entrance when about four armed men approached the driver, opened fire, and set the vehicle alight.
A second vehicle nearby was also targeted. The driver managed to flee the scene, but his car was also torched.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that both the driver and a passerby sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A case of murder, attempted murder and arson is opened for further investigation.

The incident is suspected to be related to taxi violence. The SAPS and JMPD are monitoring the situation.
