Diepkloof karate club honours standout athletes

Kofukan South Africa Karate recognised its top performers for March, celebrating discipline, dedication and rising talent within the dojo.

The Kofukan South Africa Karate team continued its tradition of recognising its hard-working karatekas in March.

The team’s sensei, Thabo Molubi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team for their hard work and dedication.

Paballo Mohomane was named senior karateka of the month for the second consecutive month.

“This is a very reserved young man who has dedicated his life to karate. His determination and dedication are out of this world. Mohomane is always the first karateka to arrive in class, and he is setting a very good example to all our young and upcoming karatekas.

“Next month, he will be taking part in our Shito-Ryu Alliance tournament that will be held on May 2 at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, and I am confident that he will make our dojo proud and bring us medals,” said Molubi.

The junior karateka of the month trophy was scooped by Oratilwe Mokwena.

“I really admire the determination of this young karateka. Oratilwe has been training with us for only a month now, and he has shown nothing but dedication from the first day of his training.

“Keep in mind that he comes all the way from Dobsonville, and his parents make sure he does not miss class. This is something that touches me as an instructor when I see the determination of young karatekas like him, and it also inspires me.

“Many youngsters in our townships have gone astray due to peer pressure and are not taking part in any sports.

“I become excited when I see the likes of Mokwena utilising their time through sport and will one day become ambassadors for their townships through sport.”
