This follows information received by the officers on Thursday, May 25 alerting them of suspects in possession of identity documents, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) cards and Bank cards that do not belong to them.

“The officers proceeded to the given address in Meadowlands Zone 4, where upon their arrival, they found four males inside the premises,” said Xolani Fihla, Spokesperson for JMPD.

Fihla said the officers searched the premises, and while conducting the search, they found ID books, bank cards, SASSA cards and driving licenses.

“The suspects were questioned about the items found in their possession, and they informed the officers that the stuff belonged to their clients, who had borrowed money from them.

“The suspects were further questioned if their business was registered to loan money to people and the response was no.”

He said whilst the officers were informing the suspects about the illegality of their operation the suspects offered the officers a R700 bribe for their release.
