SASSA employees linked to theft of R260-million arrested
It is alleged that the suspects are linked to more than R260-million stolen from beneficiaries through ghost SASSA Cards.
Police from Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit and investigators from South African Social Security Agency arrested four Sassa employees for alleged fraud on March 14.
Three suspects were arrested at their offices in Johannesburg Central, while the fourth suspect was arrested at her place of residence in Soweto.
According to the information Urban News received, it is alleged that the suspects are linked to more than R260-million stolen from beneficiaries through ghost Sassa cards.

The suspects, three females and one male are expected to appear before the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court on March 17, facing charges of fraud.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, said the arrests come as a follow-up to another sting operation conducted on February 4.
“During the operation, four suspects were arrested in Soweto after they were found allegedly withdrawing money at the well-known retail store, using different Sassa and bank cards,” said Masondo.
Masondo further stated that the suspects, who are still in custody, were found with more than 150 fraudulent cards and an unlicensed firearm.
