Inquiry ongoing for Councillor Kaldine, SAPS clarifies amid public protest

Despite claims by the Gauteng Housing Crisis Committee, Eldorado Park SAPS says no assault or property damage cases were lodged following the October 23 eviction and subsequent protest.

Eldorado Park SAPS has confirmed that the matter involving Councillor Kaldine is not a criminal case but an inquiry that is still under investigation.

Police media liaison officer, Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, explained that an inquiry serves as a preliminary step to determine whether sufficient evidence exists for a case to be opened.

“There is a difference between a case and an inquiry. An inquiry is an investigative process,” said Khobo.

“Once all the necessary information is gathered, and if there is enough evidence, it can then be converted into a formal case. For now, it remains an inquiry involving Clr Kaldine.”

The clarification follows a picket held outside the police station by members of the Gauteng Crisis Committee, who claimed they wanted to open cases of assault and malicious damage to property against the police.

However, Eldorado Park SAPS confirmed that no cases of assault or misconduct were opened against any officers.

“I checked on the system and with my commanders who were on duty, no cases were opened against the police,” said Khobo.
