Second victim of Westbury shooting dies from injuries

A shootout in Westbury left five people injured, with one woman dead on arrival and a 19-year-old man later succumbing to his injuries.

Police are investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder following a shootout in Westbury on March 5.

The victims were at the corner of Lark Spur Court and Jacaranda Court when they were attacked by an unknown number of gunmen.

All five sustained gunshot wounds. One woman was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, and a 19-year-old man later succumbed to his injuries.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, police spokesperson, said: “The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage. Police are investigating murder and attempted murder.”

Among the injured was a 15-month-old baby. No arrests have been made, and police are appealing to the Sophiatown community to assist with information. Anyone with knowledge of the incident can contact the local police station or submit an anonymous tip via the MySapsApp.
