Kidnapped victim rescued and three suspects arrested
This came after the victims’ kidnap led to the demand of a ransom of R500 000 from the family from the suspects.
The SAPS in the West Rand arrested three suspects and successfully rescued a 30-year-old kidnapped victim in Kagiso in the early hours of May 2.
This follows a case of housebreaking and kidnapping reported on May 1 in Kagiso, where unknown suspects abducted the victim and allegedly demanded a ransom of R500 000 from the family.
A multi-disciplinary task team, including West Rand Crime Intelligence, Kagiso Visible Policing, West Rand TRIO detectives, the Highway Patrol and the K9 unit, was activated.

Through an intelligence-driven operation and technical surveillance, the team traced the suspects to a premises in Tshepisong Phase 1.
Three suspects were apprehended at the scene. Police also seized a white Suzuki bakkie, Capitec bank cards and cellphones believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. The victim has since been reunited with their family.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, commended the team, saying:
“This successful rescue of the victim shows what integrated intelligence and dedicated teams can achieve. We will continue to prioritise serious and violent crimes and ensure perpetrators face the full might of the law.”
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on May 4, facing charges of kidnapping and extortion.
