Film industry pays tribute to assistant director McDonald Mapholo

Colleagues and family gathered in Soweto to celebrate the life of “Rasta”, whose journey from security guard to assistant director inspired many.

A memorial service was held for assistant director from Mapetla by his colleagues in the film industry on April 24 at Eyethu Heritage Hall in Soweto.

Known as McDonald ‘Rasta’ Mapholo, he grew up in Moletsane and worked in security in the film industry. Over the years he worked his way up to assistant director.

Colleagues and family of Mapholo gathered in a beautiful yet emotional service to reminisce on the time spent with the deceased.

He was described as a selfless man who was hardworking and honored everyone who was close to him. His uncle, full of emotions, shared that although this is a somber moment, he would like everyone to celebrate a life well-lived.

Producer Maurice Dingli shared that he met Rasta early on in his career when he still worked as a security.

‘’He served with passion and it is a very sad moment for us. We have lost a colleague who was hard working and lived his life to the fullest,’’ said Dingli.

Colleague Sabelo Vosloo shared that Rasta was a kind individual who was always willing to lend a hand and did his job diligently.

‘’I met Rasta as an intern and he took me under his wing. He leaves behind a legacy of making an impact on the lives of the community and everyone who held him close to their heart. He was a resilient man who worked hard and for that he will always be honored.’’

Rasta was laid to rest on April 26.

Sabelo Vosloo honoured the late Rasta, sharing that he was a selfless and kind man.
