JMPD seizes large drug stash in Zola North operation

Hundreds of Mandrax tablets and crystal meth were recovered during a tactical operation in Zola North, although the suspect evaded arrest.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs during an operation in Zola North following a community tip-off.

According to JMPD, officers from the Wemmer Complex conducted a tactical operation at a residence in Mashiyane Street on June 7.

Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly fled the scene by jumping through a window and scaling boundary walls into neighbouring properties.

A search of the property led to the discovery of 674 Mandrax tablets hidden in a cupboard and 234 units of crystal meth concealed in the ceiling.

The seized drugs were handed in and booked at the Jabulani Police Station for further investigation. The suspect remains at large.

JMPD said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug dealing in Johannesburg communities and encouraged residents to continue sharing information with law enforcement authorities.
