Two Soweto filling stations targeted in separate ATM bombings
Armed suspects allegedly bombed ATMs at filling stations in Meadowlands and Orlando West shortly after midnight, with police appealing for information.
Two filling stations in Soweto were targeted in separate ATM bombing incidents shortly after midnight on Wednesday, September 30, with police searching for the suspects.
In the first incident in Meadowlands, four armed men wearing balaclavas allegedly entered the filling station store and chased away a petrol attendant and a customer before bombing two ATMs.
Cash from the ATMs was scattered across the scene, while the suspects reportedly fled in a brown Audi and a white Bantam.

No injuries were reported.
In a separate incident in Orlando West, about five armed and masked men allegedly bombed an ATM at a filling station on Pela Street.
The suspects reportedly fired shots into the air before fleeing in a dark-coloured Audi.
Several taxis and part of the building were damaged in the incident, but no injuries were reported.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said investigations into both incidents were under way.
“Police are investigating the ATM bombings and are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist with the investigation or help trace the suspects to come forward,” Nevhuhulwi said.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
