Police make break through in Jabulani robbery

The suspects arrested are part of a group of men who were armed with firearms at Food Lovers Market.

Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday, August 8, in connection with a robbery that occurred on July 30 at Jabulani Mall, Soweto.

The suspects arrested are part of a group of men who were armed with firearms at Food Lovers Market, demanding money from the tills and safe. The group fled the scene with undisclosed amount of money.

At the time, SAPS’s Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the nine suspects were robbing the store, two more suspects armed with firearms were at the main entrance of the mall while other four suspects, also armed were on observation opposite the mall.

According to Nevhuhulwi who was commenting on the arrest of the three suspects, intelligence-driven information led to the arrest of one of the suspects in Mofolo.

“Upon interviewing the suspect, it was discovered that he was out on bail on a different case of business robbery that took place in Diepkloof,” Nevhuhulwi said.

She added that preliminery investigations led the police to two more suspects at Nancefield Hostel.

She said police were tracking the other suspects involved together with the firearms used during the robbery.

“All three suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before court on 10 August 10. The investigation and tracing of other suspects involved continue,” she said.
