According to the Chairperson of Mzansi Act Now, Tebogo Lerole, most men face numerous obstacles that they are often unware of.
Therefore the Men’s Imbizo provides a safe space for any man to come and work through any problems that have been bugging them all year.
“Men are very violent and they have an element of abuse not just to women but towards one another.
“We believe that there is a fundamental cause towards this violence amongst men.
“So in order to limit some of the violation challenges we decided to implement the Men’s Imbizo so as to allow them to unpack whatever issues they go through,” said Lerole.
He added that many of the difficulties men encounter are typically brought on by the pressure from the society hence the Men’s Imbizo provides programmes that usually have specialist that supply psycho-social interventions.

This is because men are not psychologically 100% well and they are wounded.
A couple of influential men from the entertainment industry were also invited to come and be part of the informative discussion.
MMC for Roads and Transport in the City of Johannesburg, Kenny Kunene said men are confronted by many obstacles and at the core of these challenges is lack of political incisiveness and proper leadership.

“We have a high rate of crime, rape, murder and assault and we are still going to have a high rate of social ills because of our government’s unwillingness to take a stand on anything,” said Kunene.
A local who attended the programme, Veli Khumalo said because the Men’s Imbizo benefits the majority of men, he would like for it to take place annually.
“This initiative truly teaches us how we should behave and handle ourselves, especially toward women. Therefore I’m extremely delighted about it,” said Khumalo.
